Bard Song

Post by T3hRedMage »

More complaining from me.

I hear that the bard song aura only does damage if your enemy can see you. Is this true?

I tried to make a support bard that sneaks and buffs allies with song and hurts enemies with nothing but song, but it does no damage to them at all, even if they stay in it for.. 45 seconds. Is this really because they can't see me? If so, then why was it changed?

I understand that an invisible sneaking bard is hard to detect, but even so, there are sonic resistance items for very cheap.

With all the melee bard nerfs, one would figure that people would try something different, but when I try something that isn't a melee build.. it seems useless... and makes me want to take weapon finess.

The aura does not damage them if they can't see you, the bard. The reason that was done is its hard to curse someone with your music and them not know where you are. Its been like that for a long time though. Before that we had hiding & invis bards just following people around and killing them.

Yes. I don't really have a problem with curse song removing invisibility.

My problem is more within the fact that it doesn't damage them unless they can see you. This kills creativity and the fact that bards should me made for support. Why? Because this makes the only good bard a melee bard.

If someone wants to use invisibility and hide to hurt someone with sonic aura, I think it's fine. I don't remember it being that deadly when it was allowed. All they have to do is raise their will save and/or get the sonic boots and then the bard will have to find an additional way to do damage.

I just don't agree with this at all because it kills build ideas and makes pure bards nothing more than straight up fighters. It makes every bard that enters the server totally predictable. Either dex melee or strength melee. Nothing creative or different.

Sonic aura can't be stopped by boots though. Plus players can see your aura even though they can't see you.

Exactly my point. They can see the aura, so they can just.. run or cast some AoE's in it. You can't have high perform and decent hiding gear at the same time, so you can be spotted.

Boots does stop all or the majority of the sonic damage.

I laughed at the anti-bard crusade at first, but now I'm starting to believe in it.

I repeat, the only pure bard builds that work now are high dex finess bards, which suck at high levels or strength bards. Strength bards are now the only pure bard class to play. No support.

My aura gets almost 20's at level 7, boots would only stop 10, but anyhow the damage when hidden can be removed. I just thought it was lame that I can go in hide and kill 5 players with just my aura.
