well maybe Rary is right. Indipendance day (for you americans) reminds you of ur indipendance (well duh) but it would only be written in books and forgotten if it wasnt for the holiday.
And as for valantines, besides the fact that businesses take the oportunity, some people do get the mate of their lifes thnx to that day.

And dammit i dropped a piece of my toast on the keyboard whilst typing! Now it's all buttery >.<

Birthdays are ways for everyone to celebrate that they are 1 year older now. Most people don't care and therefor don't celebrate it, some do care and celebrate it.
