Another GMW nerf

Post by Casas »

Proposing another GMW nerf.

Paladins, Clerics, Bards, ...Wizards?Nah.. Have it too easy with GMW. Each of those classes can buy whichever cheap weapon they please and maximize it's enchantment power for damage and AB.

I say that's too powerful (clerics are hit pretty hard as it is, be nice to bring back their BAB if this goes through). This is mostly based off of Drunken's paladin (and my STR bard from back in the day), as it's a very impressive damage dealer, hitting 50 damage a hit with a dagger is more power then my RDD rolling Power Attack with a scythe. (Not on a crit)

Calculations: 3 sonic + 5 enchant + 12 STR + 8 divine (might) + 1 prayer + 5 favor + d4 weapon + d6 acid + 5 PA (not a big hit considering the highest AB class) = 41~49 dmg. Could replace that 2k acid dagger with the 1d8 cold dagger, ups the damage to 41~51 a hit. Or up it to 2d6 cold shortsword makes the damage 40~54 dmg a hit.

The GP that their GMW saves them is very helpful in purchasing other gears, while everyone else has to purchase 30k~50k weapons for +3~+5.

I propose altering GMW again, to +AB instead of +enchantment. AB is exactly the same as enchantment when it comes to DR purposes, the only difference is enchantment gives damage, AB doesn't.

OR changing it's duration to make it less useful.. 1 or 2 round/level would make it an two or four minute buff at L20 paladin. This solution doesn't really solved paladin damage issue, just makes ALL their buffs surge based.

Opinions? Other suggestions? Always difficult nerfing something, but this (and these) class(es) is(are) uber damage dealer(s) and has(have) uber AB and in some cases uber AC. Somethings too good w/'em.

Only suggestion I have is when casted on a target, it should be the same as now.

Ahh so you're against the nerf. You saw that paladins damage though no? My STR bards damage was comparable, only about 6 less. GMW can make ANY weapon too powerful. Instead of having to careful with what weapons are created to make sure GMW classes cannot outrageously overpower them.. we can change GMW to something less insane.

I agree with you on self casts.

The paladin would have to get another paladin/cleric/mage or bard to buff him each time he went out. I think a nerf should be set in GMW for self though.

Or making dispel work on weapons which would also equal out GMW as it is now. (I like this one better)

But yes something needs changed with it. The self casts are the main problem right now.

Normally only casters have the power to dispel weapon buffs, it hurts multiclass and empowers pure casters more.. a bad thing IMO.

Self cast works with me, encourages team play and nerfs GMW a bit.
