Need Server Host

Well, our scripter, Omen, for Barebones has recently got his NWN back up and running, and we're trying to get BB back up again. only one problem. No server host. My PC is suck and his likes to shtu down randomly...any volunteers?

Why not rent one at school/college, when you start (I start 5th October

) ask to rent one and host it there. If its possible here then im sure it is there.

That requries installing NWN on one of my schools PCs, which is prohibited, and people are constantly logging in/off on all of them.

1. What kind of server is barebones?
2. Does the computer need to be on all the time for the server to be up?
3. Would these specs be ok? Or would i need to add some ramm?

I'm jealous of the HD. Mine is like 140 gig, and it's all full of media. The sad thing is... I hardly have any movies for myself left. It's all Inuyasha, Pokemon, My Little Pony, He-Man and various Disney movies (just don't tell them I said that). Okay, I can't lie. I like almost all of those. O_O

I feel good. I get tired of being told on the nwn2 forums that my computer can't run it properly.
On topic, can anyone answer my questions? Maybe rary could say?

I think I can answer question 2: Yes I think youu need to leave the computer online for the server to run, cause every time Rary turns off his comp the server is done. I THINK.

About the RAM, more RAM means less lag and more character capacity, I THINK again, just trying to be helpful.

But yea I would ask Rary or Bigby

Isiana I LOVE YOU! *clears his throat and fixes his tie* back to business.

1-BAREBONE'S is a build testing server with both PvM areas, and a PvP area, for 1v1 fights. it contains every item in the original NWN toolset for a large variety of items. (I remember rary and Casas stopped in once to test some builds)

2-Yes, if your PC goes off, NWN does too. if you need to know how to set it up, i can tell you (but no guarantees, NWN is iffy, Rary could always offer more help if needed)

3-and that RAM is MORE than enough. 512mb is plenty but 1gb takes the cake. and i don't think your mouse surface affects anything. i mean, it might cause a nuclaer launch on all of the USs WMDs, but thats just me.

A DM position will be availiable for you, provided you abide by server rules and do not abuse your powers to repeadetly, mess up their gear, or steal their builds by accessing their character sheets, etc.

This sucks...It sounds like a good server but this computer isn't mine alone. I don't think my parents would let me keep the computer on for the whole day. I don't think i'll be able to do it.

awww.... *looks over his shoulder* Maybe DK can be shut down and we can chage it to "Official EW test Server" but the hosting a server won't make your PC as slow as a tortoise in february. you can always pull the "Mom, dad, i'm usign this window don't close it!" line. and it wouldnt' just be all day, it'd be all night as well.

It's not that, its that my dad feels that keeping the computer on if you're not using it wastes electricity.
It really gets me annoyed at him.

He's got a point there. and seriously, whats it gonna add? ten cents to the bill?

its like saying running ten apps on a PC and only using one is wasting electricity. or just having it plugged in wastes electricity.

DM Omen has gotten Barebone's up and running, he and i will be doing some modifications to the module, because it hasnt been edited since last summer by DM Mayo.

got an ATI X1950 PRO here

For a server, you also need a connection with a good upload speed.

Rary posted the Eternal Wars' server specs in the old forums.
If I remember it correctly, it has 6 MB/2 MB speed connection.
