New spells
I was wondering about what people meant about adding new spells? And I decided to make little poll about it.
I would never suggest using downloadable haks for the server since forcing new people to download extra files just to log in the THE evil of NWN. Some of the popularity of this great server is most certainly because of it's availability and easy login, a good decition of the server admins.
But there are some clever scripting ways to add new spells. One way is to add equipable items or inventory items like spellbooks which could trigger other scripts to be run than the standard spell scripts. Thus adding a vast arsenal of new spells. The description could easily be written into the same inventory item. The spells would still be named the same and have the same description in the standard spell lists and scrolls though. So any half-witted caster would literally have to "memorize" the spell to use them properly.
So, what I am asking is how this idea sounds?
And I am just suggesting, as always.

Adding new spells can be done by redoing useless spells. Hence, all the summon spells. Raise dead, resurection, and a bunch more. Can't change the name without a hak or 2da download, but you sure can modify totally what the spell does.
Main issue with spell modifying is it can change the balance and begin the endless loop of changes to balance everything else.
Adding alot of stuff and nerfing alot of stuff adds huge journal spell changes that most new people never know about.
All and all, if you get creative, then yes adding spells can be done easily.

If only it was possible to add spells directly through scripts with no 2da- and tlk-changes in NWN. Now, that would open a new dimension. But alas, such is the world.

Hmmm... Interesting thought.Rary wrote:I can always change the tlk file and if you want the new spells looking nice, just download the latest version.
If some of the now not used spells (summons, etc.) were changed to something else and the info + name changed in the standadr tlk-file server-side, people could still login to the server without that file, right?
But for those who would want the correct listed details and information in their spellbooks have to download and use the modified standard tlk-file.
It would be interesting with a few new spells overwriting those not used indeed.
Would this be a good and fun idea? It would be hard to figure out what spells to add since many unused spells are shared between the different classes.

If you are interested in doing something like this, let me know if it is allright if I supply you with a few suggestions to what spells could be fun and balanced to add. I could even supply a working spell script to examine and critique in detail. If wanted.Rary wrote:Yes, this is the other way around hak-paks
As said, just a humble suggestion.
I like this server a lot and thus get excited by the thought I might humbly be instrumental to making the server more fun.
I'd like hak-paks.. we could finally be rid of the Action-Cancel flaw.
Be nice if there could be more Conjure spells.. there's only a handful currently. And Banishment could be brought into use vs conjure spells (it being like Gust of Wind vs them.. only have to render gust less usefull vs them).

For such a lonely soul, you're having such a nice time.
